I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend!  I have added some links for you to watch at home with your child.  They are some videos we have watched in the classroom.  We are working on the short a sound and word families. Friday Breakfast

On Friday the staff made a pancake breakfast for our students.  Here are the Grade one students enjoying their breakfast.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom STEM Challenge

 

 

 

 

 

On Thursday of last week I gave the students a STEM challenge.  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

They had so much fun!!

We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom first.Next I asked the following questions:

Can you build an alphabet tree?

How many letters does it hold?

These pictures are from our challenge.  I believe the highest number of letters a tree would hold was 23. There was fantastic discussion about problem-solving when the letters fell off and about the base of the tree and how to arrange the branches.  Lots of thinking!!! It was awesome!!!

Here is a picture from our Terry Fox walk yesterday.  It was windy but we had a great walk!!

Our experiment worked!!  We discovered that red + blue makes purple, red + yellow makes orange and blue + yellow makes green!!!

Now we are wondering when crayons are made where do they get the blue, yellow and red to put in the crayons? 

Color Theory

Today we did a color experiment with primary colors to see if we could make the secondary colors.  Can't wait to check and see tomorrow if it worked!!
